What Buy Shipping cover protects, and where it stops.

| Package Value | Amazon Price | Secursus Price |
|---|---|---|
| $500 | Not applicable or unknown | $5.00 |
| $1,000 | Not applicable or unknown | $10.00 |
| $1,500 | Not applicable or unknown | $15.00 |
With Secursus you get shipping insurance made simple: one policy bought in two minutes, with cover up to $120,000. Amazon does not publish the premiums or limits of the optional cover sold in Buy Shipping, so no Amazon price is shown. That cover is administered by U-PIC for USPS labels, underwritten by The Continental Insurance Company, and pays in excess of carrier liability. Secursus prices are indicative at 1% of declared value; the calculator shows your exact rate, from 0.5% to 4% depending on goods and carrier. Ship your Amazon package as usual and insure it in a few clicks on Secursus.
Search for Amazon shipping insurance and you will not find a product, because Amazon does not sell one. What sellers can add at Buy Shipping checkout is optional cover administered by U-PIC for USPS labels, with a written exclusion list. Add the SAFE-T program, which reimburses refunds rather than insuring cargo, and it is easy to think you are covered when you are not. Here is the 2026 picture, checked against the U-PIC terms and Amazon's own announcements.
There is no Amazon-branded shipping insurance. There are several separate layers, and each one works differently.
| Layer | What it is | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Carrier liability | Included on USPS, UPS and FedEx labels | $100 |
| Buy Shipping optional cover | U-PIC policy, USPS labels only | Not published by Amazon |
| UPS and FedEx declared value | Carrier liability, bought per label | Set by the carrier |
| Amazon Shipping | Amazon's own carrier reimburses loss and damage at sale price | Claim within 60 days |
| SAFE-T claim | Reimbursement after a buyer refund, not insurance | Case by case |
When you add cover to a USPS label in Buy Shipping, the policy is administered by U-PIC and underwritten by The Continental Insurance Company, not by Amazon. It is real insurance, with two features sellers rarely notice: it applies only while the parcel is in the carrier's custody, and it pays in excess of the carrier's own liability, once the carrier has reimbursed its share. UPS and FedEx labels are not part of this program: there you rely on the carrier's $100 liability and its declared value option. To see how the postal service handles cover on its own, read our page on USPS insurance, and for express labels, our page on FedEx insurance.
The U-PIC terms for Amazon exclude many of the items sellers ship most.
| Item or situation | Buy Shipping cover (U-PIC) |
|---|---|
| Cell phones and laptops | Excluded |
| Televisions | Excluded |
| Loose stones, bullion, fine art | Excluded |
| Furs, cash, perishables, tickets | Excluded |
| Coins and jewelry to or from ZIP 10017, 10036, 94102, 94108 | Not accepted |
| Theft after delivery | Not covered |
Sellers often point to SAFE-T claims as their safety net, but SAFE-T is not shipping insurance. It reimburses a seller after Amazon refunds a buyer, it depends on Amazon's judgement, and since February 16, 2026 the window to file has dropped from 60 to 30 days. The 30 days run from the return scan or the refund date, whichever is later, or from the last scan for a lost parcel. It does nothing for a valuable parcel lost in transit that never triggered a buyer refund.
Claims split into two tracks that sellers often confuse.
| Step | What to do | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Identify the path | Physical loss or damage goes to U-PIC; a buyer refund goes to SAFE-T | They are separate processes |
| 2. File the U-PIC claim | Submit on the U-PIC portal for Amazon | Within 90 days of the ship date |
| 3. Provide proof | Claim form, invoice and a signed, dated statement from the recipient | Keep damaged goods and packaging |
| 4. Wait for USPS | Lost USPS parcels need a 21-day wait | The carrier pays its share first |
| 5. SAFE-T, if refunded | File within 30 days | Cut from 60 days on February 16, 2026 |
Secursus is an independent policy you buy per shipment, on USPS, UPS, FedEx and other carriers. It covers phones, laptops and other electronics at their declared value, up to $120,000, and pays within 3 days once your claim file is validated. Like U-PIC, it covers the parcel until the carrier marks it delivered, so it does not cover porch theft after delivery. Parcels above $200 must be shipped with signature confirmation, and TVs or computer screens are covered once Secursus has validated the packaging.
| Scenario | Buy Shipping (U-PIC) | Secursus |
|---|---|---|
| Lost in transit | Yes, USPS only, after carrier liability | Yes |
| Damaged in transit | Yes, USPS only, after carrier liability | Yes, cosmetic damage excluded |
| Phones and laptops | Excluded | Covered |
| TVs and computer screens | Excluded | Covered once packaging is validated |
| UPS and FedEx labels | Not in the program | Covered |
| Theft after delivery | Not covered | Not covered |
Selling on several platforms? eBay works differently, with its own label cover through ShipCover. USPS insurance stops at $5,000 per package, FedEx insurance caps jewelry and watches at $1,000, UPS insurance charges $1.70 per $100 of declared value, DHL insurance gives you 30 days from pickup to file a claim, and eBay shipping insurance stops at $15,000 per package. You can also compare parcel shipping solutions across every carrier and marketplace in one place.

The Buy Shipping questions sellers ask us most.
Not its own. The optional cover in Buy Shipping is administered by U-PIC for USPS labels and underwritten by The Continental Insurance Company. Amazon is not the insurer.
U-PIC, through its claim portal for Amazon, not Amazon Seller Support. File within 90 days of the ship date.
The U-PIC program covers USPS labels. On UPS and FedEx labels you rely on the carrier's $100 liability and its declared value option.
No. The U-PIC terms exclude cell phones, laptops and televisions, along with loose stones, bullion and fine art. Secursus covers phones and laptops.
U-PIC pays only the part of the loss above what the carrier owes, and only after the carrier has reimbursed its share. Your claim therefore depends on the carrier claim first.
No. Under the U-PIC terms, coins and jewelry are not accepted to or from ZIP codes 10017, 10036, 94102 and 94108.
No. SAFE-T reimburses a seller after Amazon refunds a buyer; it is not cargo insurance. Since February 16, 2026 the filing window is 30 days.
No. Both U-PIC and Secursus cover the parcel until the carrier marks it delivered. Use signature confirmation for valuable parcels; Secursus requires it above $200.
From $2 per shipment. The rate depends on the goods and the carrier, between 0.5% and 4% of declared value, and the calculator shows it before you buy.
Up to $120,000. For higher values, contact us before shipping.
